For fresh Japanese food hot off the Robata grill
For a light and fresh spa-inspired meal stop by Zuma, at the St. Regis hotel near Rachadamri BTS. The impressive Japanese Robata style grill is the focal point of the restaurant and greets you immediately upon entering. The menu serves up a variety of Japanese motivated dishes from the grill, sushi counter and kitchen. The flavors at Zuma are simple and clean. Nothing is overly fussy or prepared.
Hot off the Robata grill, try the fresh salmon or chicken. A healthy portion of fatty teriyaki glazed salmon is cooked to perfection with a slightly charred exterior that is still nicely raw and flakey in the center. Or opt for the sweet teriyaki grilled chicken, which is served with marinated shiitake mushrooms.
The standout dish at Zuma is the tuna tataki, which piles thick and tender raw slices of tuna high, atop a bath of sweet roast garlic-infused soy dressing with shaved spicy radish. The portion of tuna is generous and serves up clean and fresh flavors.
Try the avocado and watercress salad, dressed in a creamy wasabi dressing with large chunks of avocado. The peppery watercress cuts through the heaviness of the salad dressing and rich avocado. While not exactly diet food, this salad was refreshing and tasty.
The simple and light Japanese fried rice features fermented greens for a salty and sour bite. It serves as a nice base alongside the fatty grilled salmon.
If you want a departure from healthy eating order the super crispy veggie tempura as a starter. The texture is light, and crunchy while not being overly oily. Its accompanied by a mild soy dipping sauce.
For alfresco dining that beats the heat, Zuma is the only restaurant in Bangkok to feature an air-conditioned outdoor patio. Come to Zuma for the fresh Japanese food and stay for the relaxed atmosphere.
